Sovah Health – Danville Enhances Cancer Care with Advanced Radiation Technology
October 4, 2024
Sovah Health – Danville, a part of Lifepoint Health, announced today that the installation of their new linear accelerator (LINAC), a device commonly used in radiation therapy for cancer patients, is nearing completion. The first patient is scheduled for October 7th.
It has been a year since Sovah Health announced the proposed project to replace the existing linear accelerator at the Danville campus with the new state-of-the-art Varian Truebeam. While the current equipment has long enabled the hospital to provide radiation therapy for cancer patients, the new machine offers enhanced system integration, improved safety features, and the ability to decrease treatment times for some patients. This technology, which provides extremely accurate imaging and field design, is also used at many leading cancer centers throughout the country.
“We are excited to introduce the latest in cancer treatment technology to our community and the region around us,” said Steve Heatherly, market president of Sovah Health. “Cancer care is incredibly important to us at Sovah Health, because we are caring for our friends, neighbors, family members and colleagues. It becomes very personal. We continue to work closely with our vendor partners and our hospital team to ensure that the go-live installation will be a success, creating as little interruption as possible in patient care.”
The project was made possible through an investment of around $5.6M from Lifepoint Health.
“Our existing linear accelerator was scheduled for replacement, so we had the opportunity to upgrade our LINAC and continue to provide our patients access to leading-edge radiotherapy treatments,” said Debra McDaniel, Director of Oncology Services, Sovah Health. “As a result, when a patient chooses to be treated here, they can have the utmost confidence in the quality of their care, right here at home.”
Board-certified Duke Health physician, Dr. Brian Quaranta, will provide medical directorship over Sovah Health – Danville’s medical radiation oncology program.
