December DAISY Award Winner
December 13, 2024
Lauren Harless, RN of Sovah Health – Danville was honored today with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Lauren, who works in the medical surgical and inpatient rehab department at Sovah Health – Danville’s campus, was nominated by a patient who credits the nurse for being empathetic and truly making her feel cared for. “Lauren is in this profession for all the right reasons. She truly cares. I became a patient after an Urgent Care trip turned into a hospital admission. I’ve had breathing problems all my life, but this is the first experience I have had with hospitalization. When I was there, Lauren saw me at my worst. With my family living several hours away, I felt alone. However, Lauren made me feel like we were in this together. She was excellent in the physical aspects of her job, but what I will remember most is her compassion.” Lauren went the extra mile to help her patient feel very informed and cared for and the patient stated, “I hope I never have this medical experience again, but if I do, I pray that God will send me another Lauren. Thank you!” Moments like this truly showcase what an exceptional nurse Lauren is.
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
"When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Sovah Health are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
“Exceptional care is driven by the dedication and compassion of our nurses, and we are immensely proud to acknowledge Lauren for her outstanding service to our patients,” said Lindsay Crumpton, Market Chief Nursing Officer at Sovah Health. “Lauren embodies the heart of nursing, showing an unwavering commitment to not only addressing our patients' medical needs but also offering the emotional support and kindness that truly makes a difference. This recognition highlights Lauren's remarkable contributions and the significant impact she has on our community.”
